Outreach Ministry
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship”
St. John's bears God's light into the community in multiple ways.
Through our weekly offerings, we support Greater Spartanburg Ministries, Total Ministries, Mobile Meals, Habitat for Humanity, Hope Center for Children, Spartanburg Soup Kitchen, The Haven, and St. Luke's Free Medical Clinic.
We believe that we are Christ's hands and feet in this world. We show God's love for Spartanburg and the world in lots of ways, including:
Backpack Buddies - St. John's Outreach Ministries Backpack Buddies program provides food on the weekends to children at a local school that wouldn't otherwise have food available. We pack the food into plastic bags several times a month, then take it to the school to be put in the special backpacks that we provided.
A Way Home - A Way Home provides short-term shelter and wraparound support for families experiencing homelessness in Spartanburg County. Operated by APTCH in partnership with The Faith Initiative to End Child Poverty, the program helps families move from crisis to stability through safe shelter, daily support, and case management services.
Each Christmas, the members of St. John’s Angel Tree - Lutheran Church provide gifts for approximately 80 children identified as in need in School District #3. Children are identified by numbered tags on two Christmas trees decorated in the church nave and in the PLC. Church members look forward to providing gifts which bring smiles and happiness to these precious children, ranging in age from two to eighteen years old.
TOTAL Ministries shares the love of God by assisting our neighbors in Spartanburg County who are facing financial hardships.
Spartanburg Soup Kitchen - The Spartanburg Soup Kitchen is dedicated to serving the lives of all people in our community. We've been feeding Spartanburg for over 40 years. OPEN EVERY DAY: 7:30am-2pm
